What is a wellness exam?
Annual wellness exam, is a periodic evaluation of a person’s health status. It typically includes a lifestyle questionnaire, a health history, and a physical exam. The physical exam usually includes evaluation of lymph nodes, thyroid, heart, lungs, abdomen, breasts and pelvis.
The wellness exam also includes sexually transmitted infection (STI) testing depending on age and lifestyle factors. During your exam, your healthcare provider will make recommendations to improve and/or maintain your health.
What can I expect during my wellness exam?
During your visit, your provider will review your own and your family’s medical history. These questions may involve medical events of immediate family, past medical events, and any current medications and/or supplements you are taking.
Your provider will check your vitals and ask questions about your weight, height, and blood pressure. They will also discuss your lifestyle and current health choices. Depending on your gender, risk, and age, your visit may include different types of screenings. Screenings can include blood pressure, Pap test, or STDs.
At the end of your exam, your provider will establish a plan for your health and may create or update a list of current prescriptions, risk factors, and treatment options.
