We envision access to reproductive healthcare without barriers.
I recently started seeing a new family practitioner that doesn’t offer gynecological services and my provider referred me to LRH. I always thought LRH was only for low income patients, but she assured me that they take all patients. I knew I wanted a Mirena IUD (I had it before) so I called the clinic to make an appointment. I knew I wanted to get it inserted while I was on my period as I had heard it was easier, so I called while I was on my period to see if they had any appointments by any chance, and they did. I called near the end of the day and the executive director was answering the phones and I could tell they were busy in the office, but she did not rush me on the phone and was so kind. Since I knew what contraceptive I wanted, I asked if we could do the consultation and insertion back to back so I only had to make one appointment, and she helped me schedule the two appointments back to back, and within the next few days so I could go in on my period. I expected to have to book at least a few weeks out!
When I went into the appointment, I was really impressed with how friendly and helpful Heather was at the front desk. Again, I wasn’t rushed and she was so calm and welcoming. Sydney was the next professional I worked with, and she was so kind and welcoming as well. She was great at listening to any concerns or questions I had. My insertion was done by Heidi, and once again – she was not rushed, so calm, and so kind. She reminded me that it’s my body and I am in control, so if at any point we need to stop, it was up to me.
After the procedure, Sydney made sure I had a goody bag to go. She sent me out the door with period underwear and chocolate. I immediately texted all my girlfriends – every clinic should do this! (They were envious).
Long story short, the IUD didn’t end up being the solution for me, and I was able to get back in quickly to get it removed. I worked with Jason this time, and also felt like he took his time and listened to me. Previously when I had my IUD removed at another clinic, I felt as if I was being judged for leaving without another form of birth control in place (and promptly sent out the door with the world’s largest stash of condoms not unlike Jessica Day). In this case, my decision to take a break from hormones was respected and not questioned. I felt trusted.
I don’t think I’ve ever been treated so kindly in a medical office setting. Everyone on staff was so calm, considerate, and kind. The work you are doing is so important, especially in a rural community and a state with such scarce reproductive health options. Thank you for doing the work you do – I hope to keep supporting you as a Laramie resident and using your services when I’m ready to revisit my contraceptive options.

The Meaning behind the indian paintbrush
The Indian Paintbrush flower symbolizes confidence and clarity of thought of an individual experiencing a change within their unique path through life. It also symbolizes intuition and trust while making new and bold decisions. This plant represents LRH in that it thrives and flourishes in difficult conditions and represents support and comfort.
